Graeme Souness identifies Caglar Soyuncu as ideal Harry Maguire partner
In his column on the Times, Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has identified Leicester City star Caglar Soyuncu as the ideal partner for Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire.
The Englishman completed the move to United last summer for a world-record fee for a defender. He has improved our backline while also scoring a few crucial goals at the other end.
Despite that there have been times when he has been made to look foolish, as opponents waltzed past him to score. A reminder of that occurred just a couple of nights ago against Tottenham Hotspur.
United have shipped in 31 goals in 30 games in the Premier League this season. For a team that is looking to challenge the top two, it is not good enough.
Souness did not hold back and admitted that Maguire is no Virgil van Dijk. We grudgingly have to agree on the point. The Dutchman is a freak of nature and Maguire, on the other hand, has done enough to justify he has been a good purchase for United.
The Scotsman believes that partnering Soyuncu alongside Maguire could be the answer.
“In terms of potential solutions, I like Caglar Soyuncu at Leicester City very much.”
The Turkish defender joined Leicester in the summer of 2018. Having sparingly featured in his first season, he has enjoyed a spectacular breakout this time around.
“He’s the standout signing for me this summer, the centre half they will all be after.”
A no-nonsense defender, he has played 36 times for the Foxes this season. Possessing pace, power and a good reading of the game, the 24-year-old has been exceptional this season.

Soyuncu and Maguire played together three times for Leicester. Bringing the former to United will give them the chance to rekindle their partnership.
It remains to be seen if we will go for the Turk. He has all the tools required to become a leading defender in the future.
