Manchester United lead the race for Kai Havertz

According to the Sun, Manchester United are leading the race for Bundesliga star Kai Havertz.

The hugely talented midfielder is one of the highly sought after youngsters in world football. United are prepared to make an initial offer of £50million for Havertz.

It is unlikely that the bid will be accepted. United will have to increase their offer in order to sign the player.

Given that we are already chasing Jadon Sancho, it remains to be seen if we can also bring in Havertz. The Borussia Dortmund star will cost upwards of £100million. A significant investment in today’s financial situation.

Sancho did his demand no harm as he scored a hattrick in the 6-1 victory away to Paderborn on Sunday.

Havertz too has been in excellent form since the Bundesliga restarted last month. he has scored five goals in the last four games taking his tally to 15 goals in 38 games. He is also capable of creating goals and has provided eight assists so far. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Capable of playing a variety of attacking positions, he will be an excellent addition to the United squad. Also capable of playing as a centre-forward, his versatility is a key strength.

Havertz has just over two years remaining on his current deal at Leverkusen but the club could find it difficult to keep hold of him.

A number of clubs including Liverpool and Bayern Munich have also been linked to the young star. With the Merseysiders also linked to Sancho and Timo Werner, it is likely that we will go up against them multiple times this summer.

It will be a dream window if we do sign both Sancho and Havertz. But with both set to cost hundreds of millions, it remains to be seen if we can afford it.
