Loan News: Manchester United make a decision on three key loan deals

Man United permit three stars to extend their loans until the end of the season

According to ESPN (h/t Express), Manchester United are prepared to extend the loan deals for Alexis Sanchez, Dean Henderson, and Chris Smalling.

This will permit the trio to see out the current season at their respective clubs. The trio was set to return to the club in June. However, with the season set to be extended, United are willing to let them stay put.

The deal will undoubtedly benefit some clubs more than others. Both Henderson and Smalling have been pivotal players for Sheffield United and Roma respectively.

The same cannot be said for Sanchez though, who has struggled with both form and fitness at Inter Milan. With the Nerazzurri not keen to sign him on permanently, he looks set to return to the club once again.

Henderson initially joined the Blades on a loan in 2018. He has played a key role in Sheffield’s promotion and subsequent rise up the table. They are currently on course for European qualification, with a Champions League berth still on the table.

The 23-year-old won the EFL Golden Glove in 2019 and is now in the race for the Premier League Golden Glove. With 10 clean sheets, he only trails Burnley’s Nick Pope, who has one more. (h/t Premier League)

Meanwhile, Smalling too has rebuilt his career in Italy. The United veteran has made such an excellent impression that Roma are keen to keep him on a permanent basis.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to get Smalling’s significant wages off the books. However, United’s asking price of £22million could prove to be a bridge too far for the Italians.

Each extension will have to be agreed by both clubs and the player. Talks are, however, yet to start as the dates of the different league restarts are unknown.
