Manchester United identify Fode Ballo-Toure as a transfer target
According to the Times, Manchester United have set their sights on Monaco left-back Fode Ballo-Toure as the transfer window approaches.
The PSG youth product joined Monaco from fellow French side Lille in January 2019. He has since made 45 appearances for Les Monégasques while assisting three goals.
United scouts have earmarked the player as one who can provide competition for Luke Shaw. The former Southampton star has failed to hit the heights expected of him at Old Trafford.
United are keeping an eye out for cut-price deals, given the financial impact the coronavirus pandemic has had. They could, however, be tempted into making a move for the 23-year-old Frenchman.
According to the report, the defender will challenge for a first-team spot should the switch be completed.
Signing the Frenchman could prove to be an obstacle in the rise of youngster Brandon Williams. The 19-year-old has excelled when given the opportunity and shows that he can compete at the highest level.
Although Shaw too has stepped up his performances this season, United are keen to bring in the Monaco defender. Capable of also playing as a left midfielder, he can function also function up the flank. With the aforementioned traits, Ballo-Toure should fit in just fine.
United’s interest in the player was also endorsed by transfer expert Duncan Castles. Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t Daily Mail), he believes Ballo-Toure has a physique suited for English football.
Castles went on to describe the Frenchman as a quick player with lots of stamina. Add to it his excellent character, United seem to have found an enticing prospect.
