Manchester United could be pipped to Kalidou Koulibaly by Newcastle United
According to journalist Paulo Esposito (h/t the Mirror), Manchester United could be pipped to Kalidou Koulibaly by Newcastle United.
Esposito had revealed that the Magpies have offered a better financial package to the player than both United and arch-rivals Liverpool. This, however, is conditional to the club’s takeover being completed.
“I believe he will go to the Premier League, where there is Newcastle in pole position.”
The Senegalese superstar is one of Europe’s best defenders. He has been on our radar for a while now given his impressive performances for Napoli.
The Magpies are now subject to interest from Saudi investors have been linked with a number of stars. They have earmarked the £62million-rated defender as a marquee signing
Although Italian giants Juventus too are keen on the player, they are in no position to afford him. Both United and Liverpool are enticing options but are set to be outbid by Newcastle.
However, ESPN pundit Craig Burley expects the Red Devils to pip our rivals to the defender’s signature.
He expects the soon to be 29-year-old to considerably strengthen the United backline. With the futures of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones up in the air, there is a slot available in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.
The prospect of seeing the Senegalese colossus partner Harry Maguire in defence will be a daunting prospect for any opposition.
The Red Devils are still a work in progress. They have shown marked improvement over the past few months. Koulibaly will be hard-pressed to find a more exciting project today.
