Manchester United set to recall Joel Pereira from loan
According to a report from MEN, Manchester United are set to recall goalkeeper Joel Pereira from his loan spell at Hearts, as the Scottish Premiership campaign came to an end.
The SPFL decided to conclude the campaign due to the coronavirus crisis. Title and relegation were decided based on average points, as Celtic got crowned as champions. Hearts, where Pereira was on loan at, ended up getting relegated. (h/t BBC)
Pereira endured a torrid time during his loan spell with the club. The 23-year-old Portuguese custodian made 25 appearances in all competitions, managing to keep just five clean sheets. He ended up letting in a whopping 43 goals.
With the season now ended, Manchester United will recall the Portuguese back to Old Trafford.
The 23-year-old was already behind David de Gea and Sergio Romero in the pecking order at Manchester United. And after having endured a disappointing season on loan, his chances will have taken a further dent. Especially with Dean Henderson starring on loan at Sheffield United.
Indeed, in contrast to Pereira’s form, Henderson has emerged as one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League this season. His form has been key to the Blades’ surprise push for a top-six finish in their first season back in the top-flight.
Pereira’s contract with Manchester United expires in 2021, although the club have the option of extending it by another year.
