Faitout Maouassa flattered by Manchester United links
According to Telefoot (h/t Metro), Rennes defender Faitout Maouassa has admitted that it is really nice to be linked with a move to Manchester United.
The former French Under-21 international has enjoyed a stellar season. It has seen him be scouted by United a number of times. Maouassa has made 32 appearances for Rennes this season and has an impressive three goals and two assists from left-back.
A fine season for the French side was overshadowed by Ligue 1’s decision to end the season prematurely. The Red and Blacks were in third place with a real chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season.
Instead, the club now faces a battle to hold on to their biggest assets. Selling Maouassa could fetch them around £30million. It represents an excellent profit on a player whom they signed from Nancy in 2017.
United did well to address issues in their defence last summer. The addition of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire has brought much-needed solidity to the back four.
Luke Shaw has enjoyed a resurgence of sorts under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The emergence of Brandon Williams also gives the Norwegian more options.
With the current financial situation leading to uncertainty in the transfer market, United will do well to invest the money elsewhere.

Left-back is not a position where United are in need of urgent reinforcement. We will be better off spending the money elsewhere, such as in the midfield or the attack.
Maouassa is an excellent player and could be a shrewd signing. However, he is just not what United need at the moment.
