Marcelo Bielsa tipped to sign Sergio Romero from Manchester United
According to the Daily Star, Former Leeds United boss Simon Grayson believes Sergio Romero could make the move to Elland Road.
He has attributed the presence of current Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa as the influencing factor behind the potential move. Leeds are currently top of the Championship table and are seven points clear of third spot.
With just nine games to go, they could finally have a realistic shot at a return to the top flight. If that does come to pass, the Yorkshire club will look to bring in a new goalkeeper (h/t Daily Star).
Current custodian Kiko Casilla has been erratic in goal in spite of keeping 16 clean sheets in 37 appearances this season. He did himself no favours by earning an eight-match ban for racially abusing Charlton Athletic’s Jonathan Leko.
Fraser Forster and Joe Hart have been touted as possible replacements alongside our Argentine shot-stopper. According to Grayson, Bielsa should have little trouble convincing Romero to make the move (h/t Daily Star).
Romero has been a capable understudy to David de Gea during his five years at the club. He has kept an impressive 38 clean sheets in 58 appearances for the Red Devils. A player with 96 caps for Argentina, he is no slouch.
“They’ll be attracting players from all other globe – regardless of whether they’re Argentinian or playing for Manchester United.”
Over-optimistic?
Grayson believes Leeds will have no problems in attracting world-class players to Elland Road once they return to the Premiership (h/t Daily Star).
Although we admit Bielsa is a brilliant manager, Grayson’s comments seem far-fetched considering the draw the clubs in the division already command.

Leeds’ return to the top flight will rekindle our heated rivalry with them. The Roses rivalry will add another dimension to the Premier League that is brimming with competitive teams at the moment.
Currently 33, Romero is reaching the end of his career. His contract at United runs till 2021 and with Dean Henderson’s emergence, it will be wise for us to sell him off this summer rather than lose him for a free.
Whether we will permit Romero to move to a fierce rival remains to be seen.
