Manchester United to rival Liverpool for Ferran Torres
According to the Express, Manchester United will rival Liverpool for the signing of Valencia winger Ferran Torres.
The duo are two of England’s most successful clubs and will once again vie for dominance in the transfer market. The impressive 20-year-old has enjoyed a stellar season at the Mestalla, Torres has scored 6 goals and 7 assists in 35 appearances for the club.
The Spanish Under-21 star who primarily plays on the wing is a versatile attacker who can play anywhere along the front line.
Torres came through the youth ranks at Valencia before making his first-team debut in 2017. He has since scored 9 goals and 11 assists in 88 appearances for the Los Ches.
The player has shown an ability to perform at the highest level. He has scored twice and assisted two more in the Champions League. He was particularly impressive in the thrilling 3-4 loss to Atalanta in the round of 16-second leg. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Torres’ contract at the Mestalla runs till 2021. Talks regarding an extension are currently underway. The report states that the talks have stalled and the club faces the prospect of losing the player on a free when his contract expires.
A drastic step
In order to prevent that from happening, Los Ches are willing to reduce Torres’ release clause which currently stands at an imposing £92million.
Such a move will be welcome news for us considering the financial implications the coronavirus pandemic will have on football.
Valencia are keen on getting the maximum they can for the player this summer rather than lose him for a nominal amount.
Apart from Liverpool, the player is also commanding interest from Juventus, Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Monchengladbach, and Bayer Leverkusen. (h/t Express)
United have done well in recent windows to make a number of key additions. The signings of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James brought solidity in the summer, while the likes of Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes add the much-needed star power.
