Manchester United could sign Thomas Meunier for free
According to French publication Le Quotidien du Foot (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has identified Paris Saint-Germain defender Thomas Meunier as a potential signing.
The 28-year-old primarily plays as a right-back but is capable of doing a job further up the pitch. Meunier is currently in the final months of his contract and can join the Red Devils on a free in the summer.
The Belgian has made 128 appearances in his four years in Paris. He has contributed to 13 goals and 21 assists, in what is an impressive tally for a defender.
Although capable of adding to our attack, he is unlikely to be a regular starter at Old Trafford.
Summer signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been a resounding success and is the undisputed choice at right-back. The addition of Meunier will add much-needed strength in depth.
PSG are unlikely to extend the player’s contract and the player will be ready to move on at the end of the season.
United will have to contend with competition from AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund, both of whom are also keen on securing the player’s signature.
Meunier has enjoyed a trophy-laden career at PSG and has won eight trophies in his time there.
An experienced player who has played at the highest level, signing him for free will be seen as a coup. Although not the best in his position, he is a more than capable player who can hold his own when need be.
