Manchester United will offer a contract extension to Nemanja Matic
According to Manchester Evening News, Serbian star Nemanja Matic is set to extend his stay at Manchester United beyond this summer.
The 31-year-old’s current contract will expire in the summer. He was expected to leave the club but now looks set to stay put.
He has featured regularly of late and his good form looks to have convinced Ole Gunnar Solksjaer to keep him on.
Having joined from Premer League rivals Chelsea in 2017, Matic has gone on to make 109 appearances for the Red Devils.
United have an option to extend Matic’s current contract by a further season. Solskjaer has, however, confirmed that the club had agreed on fresh terms with the midfielder.
“We have agreed with him so he will stay, 100 per cent.”
The injury to Scott McTominay has come as a blessing for the Serbian, who has taken his chance with both hands.
Matic struggled for game time earlier in the season, making just six appearances in 30 matches. He has now started 14 of the last 18 games and was even preferred over McTominay for the Manchester derby earlier in the day, although the latter made a substitute appearance.
A two-time Premier League winning midfielder at Chelsea, Matic won the Manchester United Goal of the Season award in his first season at the club.
