United’s £85m bid for the Senegalese star was turned down by the Seri A outfit, who expect £150million for their player.
Now, the Red Devils have cooled their interest and instead their eyes are now on Portuguese starlet Dias.
The 22-year-has been at the heart of the defence for the Portuguese outfit this season, playing a helping hand for his side to lift the league title.
He has played 50 matches this season across all competition, racking up three goals and an assist.
And he was pivotal for Benfica to maintain a healthy defensive record this season, conceding thirty goals with 15 clean sheets, the third best stat of the league.
Dias also represented Portugal at various age levels and has earned 9 caps for the senior side.
Dias to United
United’s search for the defender seems not to be stopped as Solskjaer is keen on reinforcing the side in every aspect.
The Norwegian manager wants to add the best centre-half alongside Victor Lindelof after finding out the inconsistency of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.

Dias would be an optimistic option and can be expected to form a great partnership with Lindelof, who was also bought from Benfica.
The only thing that could obstruct United’s move for Portuguese starlet is their absence in the upcoming Champions League campaign. Furthermore, Benfica have already booked their spot in the Champions League.
