Solskjaer wants to see Sergio Romero as United’s next No. 1
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has plans of promoting Sergio Romero if David de Gea seeks an exit this Summer, according to the Daily Mail.
David de Gea has fallen out with the Red Devils over wages issues, with PSG tracking the Spanish keeper. The former Atletico Madrid keeper will become a free agent at the end of next season.
Now, the Norwegian manager is interested in promoting United’s second string keeper Romero rather than going for expensive buys in the transfer window.
Jasper Cillessen and Andre Onana were some of the candidates linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Romero, 32, has been playing second fiddle to De Gea since joining in 2015. Yet, the Argentine international hasn’t grown weary over the lack of playing time and instead, remained calm and showed his brilliance whenever he was given the chances.
Argentina’s no. 1 also didn’t take part in last year’s FIFA World Cup due to an injury and his absence impacted Lionel Messi’s side a lot.

Romero has earned 96 caps for his national side and played for AZ Alkmaar and Sampdoria as well.
On the other hand, De Gea hasn’t had the best of seasons with the Red Devils as they slumped to finish sixth in the Premier League table.
The 28-year-old has conceded only ten clean sheets this season and conceded more than sixty goals.
