Manchester United want Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen
Manchester United are considering a surprise move for the Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, according to The Daily Record.
The Dutch shot-stopper, who is valued around €25million, is touted to be the replacement for David de Gea.
Despite playing second fiddle to Marc-Andre Ter Stegen over the years, Cillessen proved his worth whenever he was offered the chances.
The 30-year-old has made only 9 appearances this season across all competitions and has kept 3 clean sheets.
Being a regular of his national side, the former Ajax shot-stopper has been instrumental for Ronald Koeman’s side reaching the semi-finals of Nations League.
Earlier this month, Cillessen manifested his intentions to leave Barca for more playing time, thereby drawing interest from Portuguese club Benfica.
United looking to replace De Gea
Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is desperate to rebuild his side after enduring a tough season. His primary objective seems to be mending the leaky defence of the Red Devils.
De Gea proved to be an utter disappointment for United this season after conceding 63 goals and has kept only 10 clean sheets, his worst stats when compared to the past seasons.
The defence might have played a big part in it, yet the Spanish goalkeeper showed signs of vulnerability at times with some costly errors.
Cilissen to United- a smart move?
The Dutchman is indubitably the best second-choice goalkeeper at present, given his potential and experience. But his temperament will be tested a lot should he get chances in more competitive games.

At the same time, United simply can’t rule out De Gea, keeping in mind what he has done in the past. The Spaniard stood out even in times of considerable crisis when the defenders in front of him failed to give him enough support, which makes him one of the best goalkeepers of his generation.
And it will be an audacious move if the Red Devils land Cillessen as De Gea’s replacement at Old Trafford next season.
