Manchester United set their eyes on Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly
Manchester United have set their eyes on Kalidou Koulibaly, claims Daily Mirror. The Napoli centre-back is tied with the club until 2022 and holds a release clause worth €150m.
Koulibaly’s extraordinary season with Napoli
The Senegalese international has been at the heart of the defence for Carlo Ancelotti’s side to finish second in the table.
Having been a regular for the Serie A side, the 27-year-old has bagged 2 goals and 2 assists this season.
The former Genk Player has earned 32 caps for the Senegal team thus far.
Solskjaer needs to reinforce the defence
United’s underwhelming season ended with another defeat against Cardiff last week. Ole Gunner Solskjaer’s impressive interim run took an abrupt run as the Red Devils lost a string of matches following his appointment as the permanent manager.
United’ defence, in particular, was often found uninspiring with names like Asley Young, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones getting criticised for their displays.
Now, the Norwegian manager’s priority turns out to be strenghening the defence.
Koulibaly would be a great addition but it requires a record-breaking fee to land the Senegalese centre-back.
Earlier, Liverpool made a big-money move for Dutch defender Virgil Van Dijk and in fact, he proved to be a bargain.

Koulibaly possesses attributes such as aerial strength, tackling, positioning and versatility to play as a full-back if required.
He has the ability to play as a defensive midfielder too and is one of the very few ball-playing defenders in Europe.
