“I think Matthijs de Ligt is absolutely made for English football,” Marcel van der Kraan told talkSPORT. (h/t The Express)
“He is the new Jaap Stam in a way.
“He is an absolute force, he’s physically stronger than anybody in that Ajax team.
“If you saw the power he has in an attacking way at corners and set pieces – the way he headed in that second goal which helped Ajax into the semi-final, it was phenomenal.
“You have another Van Dijk coming to the Premier League if you get Matthijs de Ligt.”
De Ligt, 19, is one of the hottest properties in Europe right now. He produced a majestic display as Ajax shocked Juventus to advance to the last four of the Champions League earlier this week. His performances over recent years has seen him linked with some of the world’s biggest clubs, with Van der Kraan revealing that Barcelona and Juventus are hot on the defender’s heels. However, talkSPORT presenter and former Manchester United forward Alan Brazil feels De Ligt would be a fantastic addition for the Red Devils.
“Manchester United could do with someone,” Brazil added.
De Ligt would be a brilliant signing for the Reds
One of the most sought-after talents in Europe, De Ligt would undoubtedly bolster Manchester United’s defensive ranks. The teenager has the physical qualities as well as technical abilities to thrive in the Premier League.
We are in dire need of a couple of top quality central defenders as the game against Barcelona showed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer cannot rely upon the current crop. A player someone like De Ligt would be a solid addition, while ideally being Victor Lindelof’s perfect partner in central defence.
