Owen Hargreaves feels Manchester United need four signings this summer
Manchester United suffered a humbling night in the Champions League on Wednesday as we were defeated 3-0 by Barcelona at the Camp Nou.
The Reds were 1-0 down after the first leg at Old Trafford but the tie was soon over as Lionel Messi hit a quickfire double before Philippe Coutinho scored an absolute cracker to help the Spanish giants ease past us.
It was a very disappointing night for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co. as we are set to end a second successive season trophyless following elimination from the Champions League. We are sixth in the Premier League with five games left to play and the gulf in class between us and Barcelona served as a timely reminder for Solskjaer that a rebuild is required.
And according to former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves, the club needs at least four new signings in the summer. The player turned pundit feels Solskjaer needs the help of a Director of Football, plus a centre-back, defensive midfielder, central midfielder and a right winger, claim the Manchester Evening News
“I think they need four [new signings] this summer,” Hargreaves was quoted by the Manchester Evening News.
“I think recruitment is going to be so important for Manchester United, the director of football – Ole Gunnar [Solskjaer] is going to need that help.
“For me, today showed that they need a defensive midfield player in that position. Fred played there. He’s a ball player. Three moments in the game where he could win a challenge or stop someone and he just didn’t do that.
“I think he’s a No.8, like Pogba. I thought McTominay was terrific. Centre-back, a central midfield player and there’s got to be someone in at right wing.
“I think they’ve got a great potential but the recruitment this summer has to be spot on.”
Hargreaves is spot on!
Hargreaves is absolutely right as we first need to hire a Sporting Director, someone who helps Solskjaer in recruiting top quality players. It’s crystal clear we need fresh faces at the club but not before a Sporting Director is hired.

Solskjaer faces a busy transfer window and I just hope he gets full backing from our club when the transfer window re-opens in a few months’ time.
