Manchester United could pip Chelsea to the £50m signing of Nicolo Barella, according to the Daily Star. The 21-year-old Italian midfielder has impressed for Cagliari this season and has even played for the national side four times.
The report adds that the Red Devils are the favourites to land the Italian despite Inter Milan being in the race. United have identified Barella as a star for the future and want to sign him even if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not remain in charge of the club, as per the report.
The 21-year-old is happy with his current club, however, the report adds that a big money move to Old Trafford might be hard to resist for Barella.
Manchester United could do with some additional quality in their midfield, however, the team has been doing very well under Solskjaer.

United have been on a tear under the Norwegian and we could finish in the top four should we continue playing in the same fashion.
