Manchester United have made a take it or leave it bid of £30million for Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella, according to Corriere dello Sport (h/t Mirror).
The report claims that the Red Devils could steal a march on Chelsea and sign the highly rated 21-year-old.
Chelsea are willing to spend £45million for the midfielder, however, the report claims that United have reacted quicker and made a bid to the Serie A side.
The Red Devils have a few midfield options but Barella would certainly be one for the future too. The Italian can play in a deeper role or as an attacking midfielder and could be a great option alongside Paul Pogba.
Barella also has a couple of international caps to his name and has played 18 times in the Serie A for Cagliari.
United haven’t made any moves in the winter window, while Chelsea have already struck big with the signing of Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund.
However, the winger will not join before next season, and it will be interesting to see if we win the race for Barella given that the Blues want to spend more for the 21-year-old.
The Red Devils could do with some quality coming in January as we look to finish the second half of the season on a high.
The right signings could be the key to ensuring a top-four finish, and more importantly, Champions League football for the upcoming campaign.
