Manchester United will be keeping a close eye on Diego Godin as Atletico Madrid are trying to find the best solution for the player. The centre-back is out of contract at the end of the season and is unhappy with Atletico not offering him a new deal (h/t Express).
United bid for the Uruguayan in the summer and manager Diego Simeone claimed he wants to keep the defender at the club (h/t Express):
“Both Atleti and the player are seeking the best solution for all parties. The club and Godin know what I think about this. If he does remain with us, it’ll be because it’s best for him and the club.”
Godin could be a decent signing for United on a free transfer but his age is the only bone of contention. The 32-year-old is reaching the twilight of his career and it would be a challenge for him to acclimatise to the Premier League.
The Atletico man isn’t the only defender United are keeping an eye on, with Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar also on the list (h/t Express).
The Red Devils need a quality centre-back given their problems in keeping the opposition out. Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof have done a decent job at the back, and it will be interesting to see what our transfer activity would be this month.
