Manchester United are closing in on Senegal defender Kalidou Koulibaly, according to Ladbrokes (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Napoli defender is one of the best in the world and the report claims that the 27-year-old was linked with United during Jose Mourinho’s tenure.
Ladbrokes (h/t Manchester Evening News) have installed United as 2/1 favourites to become the next destination for the central defender, after slashing their odds. The report adds that the 27-year-old won’t come on the cheap, and has a price tag of at least £90m.
Mourinho failed to sign a central defender in the summer despite being linked with Toby Alderweireld, according to the report. The Red Devils have struggled to keep clean sheets this season and have five centre-backs at their disposal.
Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo weren’t preferred by Mourinho, with Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling being the first-choice pairing this season. It will be interesting to see how much money Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be given to spend in the winter window.
United lie eight points behind Chelsea in the race for a top-four spot but have looked decent under the interim manager.
Solskjaer has won two out of two, and he needs the team to play in the same manner to close the gap on the Champions League spots.
