Manchester United and David de Gea cannot seem to agree on a new long-term deal, as per the Express.
The report claims that United have used an option to extend his current stay at the club by another year but the Spaniard will become a free agent in June 2020 if he doesn’t sign a new deal.
He is one of the best shot-stoppers in the world and is open to staying at Old Trafford. However, the former Atletico Madrid man wants to be on the same pay scale as top players like Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez (h/t Express).
The report adds that the Spaniard’s representatives are using Liverpool and Chelsea’s moves for Alisson and Kepa Arrizabalaga in the summer to show how valuable goalkeepers are.
De Gea is easily better than the pair and has certainly been United’s best player in recent years. The 27-year-old could leave for free in 2020 and that would be a huge blow for Jose Mourinho’s side.
The report adds that the player’s representatives are confident of getting a huge deal from one of Europe’s top clubs should De Gea not get the right deal from the Red Devils.

This is a no-brainer as we have to keep the keeper at all costs. It would be difficult to find a player of similar quality in the market. If we have to pay him the big bucks, so be it.
