Jose Mourinho will ask the Manchester United board to sign Kalidou Koulibaly in the winter window, according to the Sunday Times (h/t Mirror).

The 27-year-old has helped Napoli to a decent start in the league. Carlo Ancelotti’s men lie four points behind league leaders Juventus.
Mourinho wanted to sign a central defender in the summer but could not complete a deal for the likes of Harry Maguire, Toby Alderweireld and Diego Godin, as per the report.
United’s defence has been porous this season, having already conceded 16 goals from just nine games. They have scored 15 goals, five of them coming in the previous two games against Newcastle and Chelsea. Hence, it is not surprising to see Mourinho planning to solve the defensive crisis by signing a central defence.
Our defence was missing against the Magpies as we were down 2-0 within a matter of 10 minutes. Meanwhile, against Chelsea, the performance was a tad better but the Blues secured a last-gasp equalizer to get a point at home.
Koulibaly would not be a cheap signing in the winter window. Hence, it will be interesting to see whether Ed Woodward is willing to free up the funds for another central defender.
