Manchester United lost their Carabao Cup clash against Derby County and a lot is going on behind the scenes at Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho has stripped Paul Pogba from vice-captaincy and didn’t bother to explain his decision.
The Portuguese manager was quoted saying (Evening Standard):
“The only truth is that I made the decision for Paul not to be the second captain anymore.
“It was exactly the same person who decided Paul was the second captain.
“No fall-out at all, just decisions I do not have to explain.”
Pogba was not included for the game against Derby. United squandered an early lead but equalized from practically the last action of the game – only to lose the tie on penalties.
Phil Jones missed the crucial spot-kick which saw Frank Lampard’s side progress into the next round. Mourinho was unhappy that his team failed to kill the game in the first half.
The Evening Standard claims our manager is unsure about the attitude of the French World Cup-winning midfielder.
The Carabao Cup defeat wasn’t expected and it has added to the negative environment around the club. We did send out a strong side but couldn’t capitalize on our first-half domination.
