Manchester United are set to extend the contracts of eight players over the season as the club are considering the futures of several players, according to Manchester Evening News.
The report claims that David de Gea, Anthony Martial, Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Matteo Darmian, Andreas Pereira and James Wilson have all entered the final year of their contracts. United could extend their deal by a year to ensure they do not leave on a free in the summer.
The report further adds that Luke Shaw, Ashley Young, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata are free to negotiate with other clubs in the January window as they have entered the final six months of their current deal with the Red Devils.
United have opened negotiations with Martial over a new deal and are confident of extending De Gea’s stay at the club but the report claims that there is uncertainty about the futures of some players.
Darmian was on sale in the summer window but we did not receive a decent valuation for the player, as per the report. However, the scary proposition is losing the likes of Shaw, Herrera, Mata and Young on a free next season.
The quartet are decent options to have in case some of our starters pick up injuries and Shaw has been brilliant for us this season.
It is really concerning that the contracts of so many players are in the final years and we haven’t taken steps to seal their futures at the club.
