“Absolute garbage” – ESPN pundit refutes Nemanja Matic’s claim of Mourinho using the media

Fulham are keen to sign Manchester United star Nemanja Matic in the summer transfer window.

ESPN FC pundit and former Liverpool star Steve Nicol doesn’t agree with Nemanja Matic’s claim that Jose Mourinho is using the media to protect his players (h/t Daily Star)

Manchester United have had a tough start to the season with two losses from three games but the win over Burnley should lift some pressure off the team and manager.

Matic was quoted by the Daily Star and the Serbian claimed Mourinho was dealing “very well” with the pressure:

“That is why he is here in Manchester United. I don’t see any difference.

“Of course it takes the pressure off us.

“He knows what he’s doing for sure. You probably know that also. It’s good for us.”

Nicol, however, didn’t believe a word from the United midfielder and said (h/t Daily Star):

“Oh what a lot of nonsense. Absolute garbage.

“‘Yeah, let’s make the world jump on us at every turn and bring everybody against us’.

“That’s a great strategy that, isn’t it. How’s it working for them?”

Craig Burley, another pundit for ESPN FC, echoed his colleague’s thoughts and said (h/t Daily Star):

“It’s a weird way to look at it because that’s like saying ‘the manager’s getting all the heat so nobody’s noticed we got pasted by Tottenham 3-0.’”

Mourinho is known for having his way with the media and his comments before and after the game could well be another ploy to keep the players away from the spotlight.

Our next game is against high-flying Watford, who have won all their games this season. The Hornets will not be easy to beat but Mourinho has the tools to get the right result.

A win against Watford should shut a few more pundits and ensure we are back in the race for the Premier League crown.
