The Guardian reports that Manchester United are confident of tying David de Gea down to a new contract and extending his stay at the club.
The Spanish international won the Premier League’s Golden Glove award last season and currently earns around £180,000 a week. However, his wages could substantially increase once he signs a new deal, as per the report.
De Gea had joined United under the tenure of Sir Alex Ferguson and has become one of the best players in the world, if not the best goalkeeper in the world.
The report does add that Real Madrid were close to signing De Gea in 2015 but could not file the necessary paperwork in time.
De Gea then signed his current deal but the Old Trafford hierarchy must retain him for the long-term. The report claims that De Gea has just 12 months remaining on his contract, with the club having an option to extend it by another year.
The Spanish keeper is one of our main players and retaining him should be a no-brainer, given that he has been our saviour on a number of occasions.
The 27-year-old seems to get better with each season under his belt. If he does sign a new contract with us, his extended stay could lead to a greater glory and trophies for us in the near future.
