The Guardian reports that Manchester United want to install a director of football at the club, a first in our 140-year history.
The report claims that the move will take place as soon as the restructure of the club and also expansion of the facilities is completed. The Guardian also reports that this will allow for a smoother transfer policy, and will ensure a “continuity of football style and ethos”.
How Jose Mourinho would react to the move is unsure, says the report. Mourinho has had his issues with the transfers not working out and has been left frustrated by the board (h/t Guardian).
While United won their opening game of the season against Leicester City, a few fans shared their thoughts on the possibility of a new position being created at United with Mourinho still in charge.
So Ed Woodward wants to hire a director of football after the transfer window.
What a first class fuckinggggg clown .That’s like putting your socks on after your shoes .#mufc

Oh wow, we’re actually looking to appoint a Director of Football. About time. Allows Woodward to do what he does best, drum up commercial success while an actual football brain handles transfers, working closely with Mourinho. #MUFC
