Manchester United are looking at Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski as a part of any deal which could see Anthony Martial go the other way, according to the Sun.

The Bundesliga giants have kept an eye on the Frenchman all summer and are keen on spending £50m according to the report. However, the report adds that United want at least £70m for the 22-year-old Martial.

United are trying to land the 29-year-old Lewandowski as a part of a player plus cash deal. A source has told the Sun that Bayern are keen on Martial and United have been after Lewandowski for a while.

The source also shared what plans Bayern had for Martial.

“Bayern want Martial to take over from Ribery but don’t want to pay the excessive fee being asked for.”

United are not looking to sell Martial to another Premier League club. The relationship between the club and player took another turn as United fined Martial for not returning for the US trip after his child’s birth.

Anthony Martial

While United are trying to send Martial away from England, the Frenchman wants to stay in the Premier League after the birth of his child Swan, according to the Sun.

Niko Kovac, the Bayern boss, had his say about Lewandowski’s future and claimed (h/t The Sun) that the striker is a part of his plans and is staying at Bayern.

“He will not leave this club. We certainly don’t want to let him go. Robert has a contract, I don’t know how long, and will stay here as long as possible.”

Lewandowski has been linked with a move to Real Madrid too (h/t Marca) and bringing him to United would raise questions about Lukaku’s role at the club.

The Polish star would not come here to play second fiddle and Lukaku would not like sitting on the bench either. Jose Mourinho would have to make a few tough calls if we are to sign Lewandowski while it will be interesting to see where Martial ends up.
