Manchester United have emerged as favourites to sign Chelsea defender Gary Cahill, according to bookmakers Betfair (h/t Daily Star).
The 32-year-old could be looking to leave Stamford Bridge if Chelsea end up signing young Juventus central defender Daniele Rugani and United have been placed higher than a number of Premier League rivals.
We are 5/4 to bring the former Bolton defender to Old Trafford while Wolverhampton Wanderers are 3/1, West Ham United 4/1, Everton 9/1 and Liverpool 11/1. The report also claims that Cahill could move to the MLS at 16/1.
Jose Mourinho is reportedly looking to bring in a new centre-back to Old Trafford as he does not want to start next season with Phil Jones or Chris Smalling.
Mourinho and Cahill have worked together earlier at Chelsea and the pair did lift the Premier League title, so our manager knows the player well.
Cahill’s age is the biggest concern at the moment. Given that he is 32, making a move for him could only be for his experience.
Maybe Mourinho prefers to have a wise head in the team and he could be turn out to be a cheap option too. The Englishman might not start every game but he could come in and do a job in the cup games.

Chelsea have done business with us earlier, with Nemanja Matic joining us, so Cahill making the move to Old Trafford would not really be a difficult probability.
