In a World Cup of surprises that just does not stop, Mexico stepped closer to a knockout round spot after defeating South Korea 2-1.
The Mexicans were coming into the game with a lot of confidence given their 1-0 win over Germany and they did start really well with Carlos Vela scoring from a first-half penalty. One quickly became two as former Manchester United star Javier Hernandez scored his 50th goal for the country.
El Tri did have to defend a bit and Tottenham’s Son Heung-min scored a fantastic goal from outside the box in the 92nd minute but the Asians could not get the equaliser in.
The Mexican was sold by United in 2015 to Bayer Leverkusen for £7.3m but he returned to England and is now playing for West Ham United.
Hernandez certainly was brilliant in the game and reminded a few United fans of just what he is still capable of as many reacted to the striker’s goal and time at Old Trafford a few seasons ago.
Javier Hernandez is the first player in history to score 50 goals for Mexico

Chicharito. Another who suffered in post Ferguson talent purge. Confident and scoring under a boss who rates him, he could still be at MUFC.

Absolutely should have never been sold in the first place

And the fact that he was sold for mere £7 million to Leverkusen.

Said it many times after he was sold that all those games United drew Hernandez would’ve been the one to get as those important wins

Man I would take Chicharito back at United any day. Top top player to come off the bench, would get 10 goals a season guaranteed, wouldn’t cost a lot, knows United through & through and guarantees 6 points against Chelsea! #MUFC

Should never have sold him!! #MUFC #Chicharito
