Manchester United to raid La Liga giants for world-class €60million star – report

Manchester United are keen to add another defender to the club as reports suggest that the Premier League giants want to sign Jordi Alba from Barcelona.

AS (h/t Manchester Evening News) claims that Alba still has a couple of years left on his contract but United want to sign the left-back who has a release clause of €60million.

The left-back could turn out to be our solution to the left-back problem as we should not be looking to play Ashley Young as first-choice in that position next season. Also, the Englishman is 32, and we need to find someone who can do the job for a few more years.

We do have Luke Shaw in the team but we all know how things have gone between Jose Mourinho and the former Southampton man, so it seems highly unlikely that Shaw will be the solution for the future.

Alba isn’t young at 29 but the Spaniard is one of the best in the world and helped Barcelona to the La Liga title last season.

The 29-year-old played 46 games for the Catalan giants last season as he notched up 3 goals and provided 8 assists too.

The left-back however, has claimed that he is happy at Barca but that the club could decide on his future.

“No no. I’m very happy at Barça. If it was up to me, I would stay at Barcelona for the rest of my life, but it does not depend on me but on what the club wants.”

Getting Alba would be tough given that Barcelona are in such a strong position when it comes to La Liga football. However, if we can provide Alba an increased wage package, he just might be tempted to move from the Nou Camp to Old Trafford and that would be a coup for us.
