Jose Mourinho could be looking to reunite with Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane as reports from Spain claim that the Frenchman could be sold by Real Madrid.
Diario Gol (h/t Daily Star) reports that Julen Lopetegui, the new Madrid manager, wants to shore up the defence and will keep hold of the likes of Sergio Ramos, Nacho and Jesus Vallejo but Varane could be the player to make way.
Florentino Perez will let the 25-year-old French defender leave but he would want Manchester United to stump up a huge fee for the central defender.
Varane had played 39 games in all competitions for Real last season and he still is one of the best defenders in the world. The 25-year-old is currently a part of the World Cup squad with France and played the entire match against Australia.
The report also claims that United were beaten to the signing of the defender in 2011 as Varane preferred a move to Mourinho’s Madrid.
There is no doubt that Varane would be an asset to our defence and would add a lot of competition for a place in the defence.
Eric Bailly and Varane would be a brilliant partnership at the back but just how much Madrid want for the 25-year-old could put a spanner in our hopes of signing him.
If France perform well and reach the final of the World Cup or go all the way, Varane’s price will skyrocket and it would be tough to get him. Varane would make our defence all the more solid next season and it will be interesting to note how this proposed transfer might develop in the coming days.
