Manchester United have been made the favourites to sign Federico Chiesa ahead of three Premier League rivals, according to reports.
The Fiorentina winger has been linked with a move away from the Serie side as the 20-year-old had a decent season for the Italian club.
Director of Trading, Ian Marmion was speaking to Starsport and said that United, Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City are the four clubs in the race for Chiesa.
“Manchester United currently lead the Premier League scrap for Chiesa as the 4/1 favourites, with Liverpool following just behind at 5/1 to sign the Italian star as they seek alternative options for Nabil Fekir.”
Marmion also added that Tottenham are looking to land the Italy international and are rated as 6/1 while Manchester City are “long-shots” at 8/1.
Chiesa scored 6 goals and assisted 5 for Fiorentina last season as the side finished 8th in the Serie A. The 20-year-old is contracted to remain with the club until 2021 but the side is expected to listen to any offers that are deemed serious.
While Chiesa does have a lot of potential and could be a star in the future, spending big money on him would be a risk. He didn’t really set the world on fire in the Serie A last season and probably would not be getting a lot of first-team action should Mourinho sign him up for the upcoming season.
The 20-year-old would need to be developed by the coaching team and he does not have experience of playing in England. So, adjusting to the conditions would be a bit of a challenge for him.
Fiorentina would be looking to maximise whatever they can get for the 20-year-old and hopefully, we aren’t the ones to spend crazy on the Italian.
