Manchester United could be looking to replace David de Gea with Jan Oblak, according to reports from Spain. Diario Gol (h/t The Daily Star) claims that Jose Mourinho will allow our Spanish star to leave only if we can bring in the Slovenian from Atletico Madrid.
The report claims that De Gea wants to leave Old Trafford and join the Champions League winners after his agent Jorge Mendes held talks with Florentino Perez.
It looks like we will allow our superstar to leave but only if we receive at least £88m for the Spanish goalkeeper. De Gea has been one of the best goalkeepers in the world and won the Golden Glove for United last season.
The keeper is also out of contract at the end of the season and Perez has reportedly told Mendes that De Gea is his dream target.
Oblak is good but he is no David De Gea
There is no doubt that Atletico have one of the best keepers in La Liga but De Gea is world-class and Oblak cannot replace the Spanish star at United.
De Gea has grown and become better for us and the £88m price mooted for his sale is just too low for someone of the keeper’s ability.
Oblak would not be a cheap replacement either but he is not tested in the Premier League and could face similar issues to what De Gea faced when he started playing for us.
Hopefully, we can keep hold of David De Gea for a few more years and win more trophies. Additionally, it would be nice if we can keep our fax machines off regarding any transfer for De Gea.
