According to a report by Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are on the lookout for a prolific French scout to replace David Friio, who joined Ligue 1 outfit, Saint Etienne, last April.
Over the years, numerous big names in modern-day football have emerged from France. Kylian Mbappe, Thomas Lemar and Antoine Griezmann are few of the most promising talents in the world of football right now and they all belong to France. MEN claims United are looking to fill the void left behind by Friio’s departure.
The report also claims that he was the one who had helped Paul Pogba join our prestigious academy but he was also furious when he found out that United were considering selling him back in 2012.
In fact, the report further states that Friio was also the one to have unearthed Raphael Varane back in 2011 and was working hard to convince Sir Alex Ferguson to sign him but before he could do so, Real Madrid snapped him up.
Hence, it is evident that Friio has a brilliant eye for recognising bright talents and it remains to be seen who we appoint in his place.
Over the years, there has been a significant shortage of talented players in our academy and that could go on to become a worrisome prospect in the seasons to come. Let’s hope we are able to appoint a new scout soon since it is quite clear that our first-team is need of a serious overhaul.
We are yet to make any signings in the ongoing transfer window so far and it remains to be seen if we manage to sign any quality players to reinforce our team.
