Blow for Manchester United as £290,000-a-week superstar instructs agent to set up Juventus transfer

Paul Pogba struggled against Arsenal

According to a report by Italian news outlet Tuttosport (h/t Daily Star), Manchester United’s £290,000-a-week star Paul Pogba has demanded a transfer back to Juventus this summer. The academy graduate arrived at Old Trafford from Juventus with a hefty price tag and lofty expectations but unfortunately, he failed to live up to his potential last season.

His performances in the previous campaign were barely sub-par and barring a spectacular display against our arch-rivals Manchester City, Pogba hardly made an impact for United. The timing of it was rather bad, given how poorly we performed.

Due to a lack of quality personnel, Jose Mourinho often deployed Pogba in a deeper role beside Nemanja Matic and one might argue that by doing so, the manager limited his movement. The Frenchman is essentially an attack-oriented player and that could have been a reason behind his lacklustre displays.

However, even at times when Pogba played higher up the field, he did not stand out. He lacked consistency and it almost seems like all is not well between the midfielder and Mourinho. In such a situation, the report does not seem far-fetched.

The report goes on to claim that Pogba has already instructed his agent Mino Raiola to orchestrate a deal for him to move back to Juventus in the ongoing transfer window.

As a fan, this is a rather bittersweet situation. Losing Pogba again would be a major blow but his haphazard displays have not done us any good. Is it a problem with the player or the manager? Only time will tell.
