According to a report by The Sun, it looks like Manchester United have a promising chance of landing Bayern Munich superstar Douglas Costa this summer. After a successful loan spell with Juventus, the Italian giants were expected to sign him for a sum of £33million.
However, the report claims that Juve might have to pull out to purchase other targets, thus providing a clear route for us to sign him. The Sun has also stated that United are willing to table a bid of £79million and if that is true, we could land a promising attacker.
The price is definitely up there but Costa is regarded as one of the paciest and most lethal wingers in football right now. His versatility is his biggest strength and that was further illustrated in the recently concluded season as he was deployed across a variety of positions up front and in the midfield.
He managed to contribute a total of 7 goals and 13 assists, which is not bad for a player who was moved around the field so much.
Costa is also quite proficient at creating chances, having contributed with 48 chances in 27 appearances for the Serie A champions.
All in all, it looks like a good deal on the surface and if we are able to secure his signature, it will undoubtedly be a great move. We have often been accused of playing boring football in recent times and surely a player like Costa would go a long way in bettering our attack.
