A previous report from Spanish publication Don Balon (h/t Daily Star) had claimed that Jose Mourinho is confident about landing Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann this summer. But if a recent report from Daily Mail is to be believed, it looks like United will have to wait.
The report claims the La Liga giants are willing to offer him wages that would see him pocket an eye-watering €25million per season.
To match such an amount would be incredibly tough and it simply goes on to show how keen Atletico are to retain his services beyond the end of this summer.
In fact, Daily Mail has claimed that the sum is €10million more than what Barcelona were willing to pay him for his services.
Surely, such an offer will tempt Griezmann to stay back, throwing a monkey wrench to our plans of landing him. The Frenchman is rightfully regarded as one of the sharpest attackers in modern-day football and to have a quality attacker like him at Old Trafford could have massively revamped our performances.
He scored a whopping 29 goals in the recently concluded season as Atletico finished as runners-up in the Spanish top-flight.
In all honesty, it comes as no surprise that Atletico are fighting tooth and nail to hold on to him but it remains to be seen if United can afford to sign him and match the wages offered by his current club.
After all, we are already paying Alexis Sanchez a hefty fee and it goes without saying that we need to strengthen a lot of other areas this summer.
