According to a report from Belgian news outlet HLN (h/t Daily Express), Marouane Fellaini might agree to extend his contract with Manchester United but he will do so only if the club agrees to meet his terms.
Throughout the recently concluded season, there was a lot of speculation as to whether or not the 30-year-old Fellaini will continue with United or choose to join a different club.
Although our gaffer, Jose Mourinho, has remained optimistic about the midfielder’s decision, it looks like Fellaini is determined to take his own sweet time to come to a decision.
The problem with Fellaini is that he is a hit-or-miss player. There are days where his performance will reduce you to tears of joy but then there are also days where you will be tearful but for an entirely different reason. He struggles with consistency but on a good day, his influence can be unparalleled.
It remains to be seen what terms and conditions Fellaini puts forward but United must approach the situation with caution. A squad overhaul is long overdue at Old Trafford and with clubs like Manchester City and Liverpool making smart new additions to strengthen their teams, it is high time that we do the same.
That said, given the way Fellaini has contributed to our success, we must try to retain him but if his demands are unrealistic, it would not be the worst thing to let him leave.
We barely scraped through to secure the runners-up spot in the Premier League and our performances were hardly convincing enough. Going forward, United cannot afford to repeat the same mistakes and thus, the Fellaini situation must be handled with care.
