Real Madrid ask Manchester United to pay £175million for Raphael Varane

Raphael Varane

According to Spanish website Mi Otra Liga, Real Madrid have told Manchester United how to sign Raphael Varane at the end of the season.

Varane has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window. The Frenchman has been in very good form for Real this season, forming a solid centre-back partnership with captain Sergio Ramos.

According to Mi Otra Liga, Varane was tipped to join the Red Devils last summer but the move didn’t materialise due to United’s strained relationship with Real Madrid. Instead, Jose Mourinho chose to sign Victor Lindelof from Benfica ahead of the start of this season.

Since signing for United, Lindelof has struggled to adapt to the demands of the Premier League. As a result, talks of a summer move for Varane have resurfaced, reports Mi Otra Liga.

The report says that Real Madrid have told Mourinho that he must either pay Varane’s release clause or forget about the deal.

Should Mourinho decide to pay the defender’s release clause, United have to cough up a huge £175million that would make Varane the second-most expensive player of all time after Neymar, the Spanish website claims.

Mourinho would be aware of Varane’s potential as he signed him from Lens back in 2011 when he was in charge of Real Madrid.

The 24-year-old Varane would definitely solidify and add much-needed experience to United’s back-line alongside Eric Bailly as we aim to challenge for the title next season.
