Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane confirms Manchester United have been in contact over move
Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has confirmed Manchester United are interested in signing him, according to the Daily Mirror.
Jose Mourinho is on the hunt for a new centre-back to pair him with Eric Bailly from the next season. The United manager is a huge fan of Varane, who is one of the most highly-rated defenders in the world.
Varane had worked with Mourinho when he was the Real Madrid manager and he even won the league in his debut season after signing from Lens in 2011.
The French defender has taken his game to a new level for Real since Mourinho departed the club and has won two Champions League trophies as well as another La Liga title.
The Daily Mirror claims Mourinho is desperate to find a centre-back partner for Bailly ahead of next season as he has apparently lost faith in Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.
Victor Lindelof arrived at the start of the season with a lot of fanfare but has not been convincing enough, while Marcos Rojo, who extended his contract with United on Friday, has been injured for most of this campaign.
This has left Mourinho with no choice but to again take a dip in the market for a new central defender and as per the Daily Mirror report, should Real decide to sell Varane in summer, United could intensify their interest.
I don’t find any reason why Real will even think of selling Varane in the summer transfer window as the Frenchman is one of the finest defenders across Europe.
