Manchester United are set to renew their interest in signing Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier. The same report has claimed that a bid of £55 million could be sufficient to persuade Spurs to begin negotiations.
Dier has been a key part of the Spurs first-team and has made 42 appearances for the club this season.
The 24-year-old was a target for Mourinho last summer as the ‘Special One’ was looking to bolster our midfield options.
Jose Mourinho is understood to be a fan of Dier, who has matured into one of the best midfielders in the Premier League since arriving from Sporting Lisbon in 2014. His current contract with Spurs runs until the summer of 2021.
We are likely to prioritize new midfield signings during the summer, given that Michael Carrick is set to retire and Marouane Fellaini’s future is uncertain. In addition to that, Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera are also expected to leave the club this summer.
Tottenham chairperson Daniel Levy will be naturally reluctant to part ways with his key players, however, Mourinho will test the North London club’s resolve during the summer.
Not only will Dier add quality to our midfield but he will also provide solid cover defensive cover as well.
Meanwhile, we have also been linked with Spurs’ defensive duo Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld.
Alderweireld has not been impressed with the latest contract offer presented to him by Spurs, which would see him earn around £110,000-per-week. If the Belgian does not end up signing a new contract with Spurs, he could end up being available for a bargain fee of just £25 million in 2019.
Rose, on the other hand, had made his intentions to exit the club clear in the summer window itself. However, whether we sign the 27-year-old or not, will depend on Luke Shaw and his future with us.
Though Shaw started the season slowly, his form has improved since the start of 2018 and it remains to be seen whether Mourinho will want to keep him.
