Manchester United are eyeing a shock triple raid on Barcelona as Jose Mourinho bids to revamp his squad in summer.
With the Premier League title all but gone to Manchester City this campaign, Mourinho is wasting no further time and has already started making plans ahead of the next season.
The United manager wants to bring in reinforcements in the summer transfer window and is interested in signing Andre Gomes, Samuel Umtiti and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen from Barcelona, the Don Balon reports.
Speaking about Gomes first, the Portuguese has been deemed as a flop since joining the Catalan giants from Valencia in 2016. The midfielder has endured a torrid time at the club and despite struggling to nail a first-team place at Camp Nou, Mourinho’s interest in Gomes is really surprising.
Umtiti has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford since the upturn of the year and would be an absolute bargain at €60million Euros, while Ter Stegen’s move to United would only happen if star goalkeeper David De Gea moves to Real Madrid.
The report adds ter Stegen is expected to cost the Red Devils around €100m if they want him as their new number one.
Meanwhile, United legend Gary Pallister has urged the club to sign one player he believes his former side need to bridge the gap between themselves and cross-town rivals Manchester City.
“Manchester City have raised the bar so highly, it’s going to be difficult to close that gap next year,” Pallister told SportingBet.
“I think we lack a bit of creativity, but hopefully with Sanchez bedding in, that should raise it. I still think we need an Eden Hazard-esque type player.
“I think we need to be more free-flowing in our play, and try and match what City are doing.
“After City beat us at Old Trafford, it’s clear there’s a big gap. We’ve got some talented players, but we’ve lacked consistency.
“We’ve defended solidly in some games, and then others been completely picked apart. United of past were great at getting points when they’ve not played well and at the moment, we’re not doing that.
“That’s the sign of a team that’s hungry to win the title.”
Mourinho has already started preparing for the 2018/19 season but first, he will have a big game against Liverpool in the Premier League to negotiate on Saturday. The 3-2 comeback win over Crystal Palace on Monday comes as the perfect tonic ahead of the mouthwatering clash against our rivals, Liverpool.
