Jose Mourinho is reportedly angry at the fact that the club are taking long to offer new contracts to a number of players. The agents of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rojo opened talks with the club and demanded pay rise for their clients in December and to date, both players are still awaiting proposals from the club.
Even though we have an option to extend Rojo’s deal by a further year at the end of the season, the contract of both players will expire at the end of the season and Mourinho is angry that we have delayed taking action.
In addition to the aforementioned duo, the long-term futures of Ashley Young, Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw and Daley Blind are also uncertain. Though all five of them had one-year extensions triggered, fresh deals are yet to be discussed.
Meanwhile, we are expected to lose Marouane Fellaini at the end of the season. The Belgian joined us ahead of the 2013-14 season while David Moyes was in charge and he has yet to sign a new contract, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.
According to Daily Mail, Martial is seemingly becoming frustrated as he is even considering his future away from Old Trafford.
Wheeler wrote on Daily Mail:
“Martial is said to feel under-valued by the delay in negotiations and has put off buying a new house until he has a clearer idea about his future. He also fears that the arrival of Sanchez could restrict his playing time.”
It also remains to be seen whether Paul Pogba will remain with us at the end of the season. The Frenchman and Mourinho are reportedly not seeing eye to eye as the player feels that he is being played out of position which is affecting his form while Mou believes that he is being played in the best position possible.
1) 8 weeks is not a long time for such discussions to take especially in the post Sanchez world which will require a complete restructuring of United’s pay scales.. and in any case both have contracts that take them beyond 2019.
2) Martial is not going to get a better offer by leveraging Spurs or Real Madrid as the idea that he would go to either is highly implausible as in both cases he would end up polishing the bench for most of the season and no way would Spurs pay him what he wants (my guess is he is already asking for more than Kane currently earns)..
As for Real Madrid he is neither good enough nor high profile enough for the President to use him in the political machinations that surround Real Madrid. Real will not waste the money that both United and Martial will demand on such an insignificant player in global terms.
3) The same is probably almost as true for Pogba whose recent performances will not have increased his worth or made him more desirable to anyone and no matter how much Raiola spreads propaganda around the web its more likely its just a negotiating ploy and not some desperate attempt to escape the grasp of the ‘evil Jose’
4) As for Fellaini given the stick he has received from certain quarters of the United faithful its little wonder he does not want to stay especially as he is not an automatic starter this is his last big contract and in World Cup year its the perfect time to offer his wares to the highest bidder.
