Paul Pogba could return to France during the summer for a fee of just £53million despite the fact that we forked out £89million to sign him back in 2016. This is because the Italian giants have a buy-back clause in the player’s contract.
The midfielder has struggled for form recently and has failed to play the full 90 minutes in our previous four matches, which has led to speculation that he could leave us at the end of the season.
According to The Sun, Pogba’s relationship with manager Jose Mourinho is said to have deteriorated following our 2-0 defeat against Tottenham. Since then, the Frenchman has been in and out of our first-team which has led to speculation that his future could lie away from Old Trafford. Pogba and Mourinho are said to be in disagreement over which position the Frenchman should be playing in.
Pogba, who currently earns £290,000-a-week, prefers to play on the left-hand side of midfield in the 4-3-3 but has often been fielded in a more defensive role along with Nemanja Matic. The 24-year-old was first benched for our 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town on February 3. He was also dropped for the Champions League last-16 clash against Sevilla last week.
“Things are at an all-time low between them. Paul has made it clear he doesn’t want to be there if Mourinho is.”
Furthermore Mou and Pogba recently are reported to have had a showdown with the boss telling the player: ‘I’m the boss’
Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola is also reportedly in talks with Real Madrid over a possible transfer. One possible transfer scenario that has been rumoured is that we could end up swapping Pogba with Toni Kroos. We have been long-time admirers of Kroos and many thought that he would end up joining us following the 2014 world cup.
We will have to look at new central midfield options for next season given that the long-term futures of Marouane Fellaini and Pogba are now the subject of speculation while Michael Carrick is set to retire at the end of the season.
