Manchester United managed to wrestle the second spot back from arch-rivals Liverpool after a brilliant strike from Jesse Lingard helped the club secure a hard-fought win against Chelsea at Old Trafford. Willian opened the scoring which put Chelsea in the driving seat but an equaliser from Romelu Lukaku saw the Red Devils get back into the game. After half-time, tensions rose and both clubs fought hard for the winning goal.
Ultimately, it was Lingard who came on as a substitute and netted an excellent header to seal a victory for United – much to the delight of the home crowd.
Earlier, Willian scored a good goal to open the tally but with the combined efforts of Sanchez and Anthony Martial, Lukaku netted a much-needed equaliser which sent a sigh of relief across the fans at Old Trafford. David De Gea, once again, put in a solid display for the Red Devils as he went about his usual business of making some important saves for the club.
The towering Lukaku actually got close to scoring the second goal for United but his effort was safely put away by Courtois. At a time when the match looked increasingly likely to end in a draw, Lingard came on and worked well with his teammates to put in a fine header which put United in control of the game.
From then on, it was a series of frustrating attempts from the Blues players to try and net an equaliser. But our lads stood strong and kept trouble at bay. That said, we still have issues that we need to work on but with that in mind, let’s take a look at how the fans reacted to the win.
The away fans watching their greatest ever manager deliver another win over them for Manchester United, so start a limp chant of “we’ll race you back to London!” Oh lads 😔
