Manchester United are tipped as favourites to sign Luka Modric from Real Madrid in summer, according to reports. The 32-year-old, who is deemed as one of the finest midfielders in the world by many, has been a vital cog at the Bernabeu for the last five-and-a-half years.
United pursued the Croatian in 2012 when he played for Tottenham Hotspur but was instead sold to Real Madrid. However, it now appears Jose Mourinho has started planning for the next season. He has already decided to make move for Modric in the summer, according to Football.London. Tottenham are also in the running to bring the player back to the club.
Mourinho would be losing midfielder Michael Carrick at the end of the season, as the veteran star has decided to hang up his boots. The United manager could also see Marouane Fellaini leave the club at the end of the season, as the big Belgian is out of contract in the summer.
Above all, the Red Devils have fallen 16 points behind arch-rivals and league leaders Manchester City following the defeat at Newcastle United last weekend.
This has seen Mourinho start planning early for the next term and the manager wants to bring Modric to Old Trafford.
“Luka Modric’s time in Madrid is set to come to an end, with the midfielder facing the chop as part of Los Blancos’ major summer clear-out.” BetStars Director of Trading, Ian Marmion was quoted by Football.London.
“Jose Mourinho is primed to reunite with his former Real Madrid player at Old Trafford with Manchester United priced as the clear favourites at 4/1 to be the Croatian’s next club.
“However, Tottenham are also in the running to recall their former midfield maestro, six years after letting him go. The Galacticos could be willing to offload the Croatian as bait for Harry Kane’s signature and the North London club are priced at 10/1 to re-sign the former fan favourite.
“Meanwhile, free-spending PSG are priced at 18/1 to swipe the 32-year-old playmaker from their European rivals.”
Modric was a fan favourite at Tottenham before moving to Real Madrid. Since moving to Bernabeu, the 32-year-old Croatian has enjoyed a fruitful spell, winning the Champions League three times in four years and also winning the La Liga title last season.
Modric is experienced, skilful and would add a lot of steel to our midfield should he complete his move to Old Trafford in the summer.
