Manchester United might have found their next great winger and instead of spending a bucket load of cash to bring the player over, the star in the making is already performing for us, albeit in the U23 games.
Tahith Chong is a name that a few of us would know as the youngster has been making a name for himself in the youth teams. But the 18-year-old was in fine form against Tottenham in a U23 game and showed just why many believe he is the next big thing for the Red Devils.
The Manchester Evening News even went on to call him ‘the next Ronaldinho’ but we have seen players failing to make the grade. However, Chong does seem to have that ‘something special’ in him.
The then 16-year-old joined us from Feyenoord and has been slowly making his mark in the side. Even a long-term injury, a cruciate ligament injury that kept him out for 10-months, has not fazed him and the youngster did score a goal in the 3-1 loss to Tottenham. He was another youth player to have caught the eyes of many.
Jose Mourinho is often slated for not playing youngsters or giving them chances to prove themselves but the manager was present at the game against Spurs and maybe he would now give Chong a chance or two in some of the competitions this season.
We did play an experimental side with four young players in the FA Cup win over Yeovil and hopefully, Chong can be the next in line to make it to the first-team. Angel Gomes has been one player that has been earning rave reviews but one thing is certain, Chong will be a name for most of us to remember in a couple of years.
The 18-year-old might not be a Cristiano Ronaldo yet but if he keeps on performing and training at the level we are seeing him now, there is no doubt that our future is set. Chong could be a mainstay for a number of years to come.
