Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is keen on leaving the Santiago Bernabeu outfit and rejoin Manchester United after the Portuguese international “felt betrayed” by club president Florentino Perez reportedly breaking promises of a pay rise.

According to the Spanish news outlet AS, “his priority is focused on returning to United,” as he is feeling “cheated” by Florentino Perez. As per the source, it all started soon after last season’s Champions League final when Real Madrid defeated Juventus 4-1 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. Ronaldo, who scored two goals on the night, was promised an improved contract by Real Madrid’s officials, but nothing of the sort has been put on the table till date.

Ronaldo, on his part, has time and again indicated that he wants to stay at Madrid, like for instance; he said If possible, I would like to retire in Madrid. But it does not depend on me, I’m not the boss in the club,” after Real won the FIFA Club World Cup. Then came his fifth Ballon d’Or where he went on to quote,“I want to continue in Madrid if possible.”

But given that Perez’s words are yet to bear fruits, Ronaldo has started feeling dizzy with the club, who currently sit 4th on the La Liga log, 19 points behind table-toppers Barcelona. Furthermore, there are also reports that Real are tracking Neymar and this might prove to be the final nail in the coffin for the Portuguese legend.

Furthermore, as far as the Manchester United hierarchy is concerned, they are well aware of Ronaldo’s desire of moving of Old Trafford. And all this is coupled with the fact that Ronaldo has already informed his Real teammates about his “firm” decision of leaving the Santiago Bernabeu in near future.

According to the IBTimes, the Euro 2016 winner currently earns €21m (£18.7m, $25.7m) per season, £360,000-a-week, and his deal was last revised back in November 2016 when he signed a new deal until 2021.

But now, the Real Madrid all-time top scorer believes that he deserves more and all this has come just weeks after Lionel Messi put pen to the papers with Barcelona which has a whopping €700m buyout clause.

Ronaldo has, many times, reflected that he considers United as an ideal place and the rumours took a firm shape when he was accused of tax allegations.

“I never had these problems in England. That’s why I want to go back there,” Ronaldo was heard on camera saying during his appearance at the court.

It would actually be interesting to see how this story shapes up as judging by the look of things, it is safe to say United do not really need Ronaldo at the moment.
